Later on in the reading, the author then discusses that a white American male with Maori tattoos was featured on a tattoo magazine, “He had a beautifully cut kauae moko, a Maori woman’s chin design, as well as a complex rafter patterning on his body” (248). After meeting the man, he explained that the tattoos were a “homage to the artistic genius of the Marori people, who had one of the greatest design traditions in the world” (248).
