Rules and procedures can be mixed up quite often.  Rules are something that needs a response, such as a consequence or a punishment.  It is typically a good idea to come up with a list of about five rules and consequences that go along with each one.  A good example that I plan to use is, NO BULLYING and the consequence is if any student is caught bullying another student they will be sent to the office immediately.  Another rule could be Listening to the teacher and following instructions.  The consequence could be that the student is sat by his or herself next to the teacher to ensure they are paying attention (Krech, 2015).

Procedures help to structure the classroom in the way the teacher wants to teach and if students do not follow the procedure correctly, it is retrained.  A  few good examples are a routine when students enter the class, how they line up at the door, how they pass up their papers.  If students do not line up the way they are supposed to because they are being rowdy, the teacher can make all the students sit back down and do it again.  This helps to establish order in the classroom and gets the students used to doing things the way the teacher asks (Krech, 2015).
